How Turmeric (Curcumin) Helps Prevent And Perhaps Even Treat some types of Cancer :

Curcumin is, among all the nutrients, one whose effects on cancer are well documented in the scientific literature.

Curcumin is derived from turmeric, the pigment that gives curry its yellow-orange color.

It is a compound that has been the subject of numerous studies, and the effects on health are manifold. The consequence is that turmeric is becoming increasingly popular as a dietary supplement. 100 grams turmeric contain 3 to 5 grams of curcumin.

The Chinese and Indian traditional medicine exploit the therapeutic properties of curcumin for thousands of years. It is particularly known for its powerful anti-inflammatory properties. Now, as you probably know, chronic inflammation is a factor underlying many chronic diseases, if not all. It has been shown that curcumin influences the expression of over 700 genes, which may in part explain its numerous health benefits.

Its effects on cancer are not, by far, his only interest. However, is its potential as an anti-cancer which I'll talk about today. At the end of this article you will also find a list of preventive measures against cancer to apply in everyday life.

How Turmeric (Curcumin) Helps Prevent and And Perhaps Even Treat all types of Cancer :

1-black pepper and turmeric, complementary association :

According to the most recent studies, black pepper can greatly optimize the effects of turmeric on the body.

-Features peppers:

Green pepper: it is picked before maturity and stored in a humid place.

Black pepper: picked when ripe, then fermented and dried.

Red pepper: it is picked at full maturity

White pepper: stripped of its envelope.

-Black pepper, health side:

Its use in the kitchen should almost become routine to minimize the addition of salt in food (flavor).
Pepper is known to be stomachic, that is to say, it promotes digestion of fats and carbohydrates. It is now known pure ease flatulence caused by eating legumes types white or red beans. However, it is not recommended for people with peptic ulcers (stomach or intestines).
It is now recognized that it contains piperine significantly improves the availability of some other food components as is the case with curcumin from turmeric.

-Maximize the effectiveness of curcumin:

Other substances improve availability: piperine from black pepper or bromelain from pineapple. Also, the consumption of this spice in a meal containing fat increases absorption: cold pressed vegetable oils or fatty fish.

2-researchers and studies :

In an article published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry in July of 2011, researchers say curcumin could be the solution to stop a deadly type of brain cancer called glioblastoma. The study, conducted on mice, supports the observations that had already been done before. Scientists have shown to reduce the tumor in 9 of 11 animals studied (81%), without showing signs of toxicity.

Better yet, curcumin did not affect healthy cells, suggesting that selectively target cancer cells. They also found that it was acting in synergy with two chemotherapy drugs, increasing the elimination of cancer cells.
doctors for many years knew this anticancer potential of curcumin. Of all the nutrients, it is she who has been the largest number of scientific papers on its anti-cancer properties.

A study published in 2008 in the journal Cancer Prevention Research has found that curcumin inhibits motility (ability to move) cells of breast cancer and spread by inhibiting the functioning of the alpha-6-beta-4 integrin, which implies that it could serve as an effective therapeutic agent in tumors that overexpress the alpha-6-beta-4. (The alpha-6-beta-4 is associated with cancer development by contributing to the resistance of cells to apoptosis and metastasis Apoptosis means programmed cell death. Cancer cells have the characteristic of not dying when they should, which contributes to tumor development).

In 2009, a study published in the scientific journal Molecular Pharmacology observed that curcumin inhibits the growth of pancreatic cancer cells and increases the sensitivity of cells to chemotherapy.

A 2009 study found that curcumin promotes cell death in lung cancer cells

3-How curcumin  fights cancer?

In India, where turmeric is widely used in cooking, prevalence, that is to say, the frequency of four very common among us cancers - colon, breast, prostate, lung - is ten times lower. In fact, prostate cancer, which is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among European men, is rare in India and this is attributed, in part, to the consumption of turmeric. It is shown that curcumin against cancer in several ways:

    - Inhibits the proliferation of tumor cells.
   - Help your body destroy mutated cells to prevent them from spreading in your body .
    - Inhibits the transformation of normal cells into tumor cells.
    - Reduces inflammation.
-Prevents the development of blood vessels feeding the tumor.
    - Inhibits the synthesis of a protein considered essential for tumor formation.

4-What is the best type of turmeric?

To take advantage of the power of curcumin, choose a dietary supplement 100% curcumin, turmeric extract certified organic, containing at least 95% curcuminoids. The formulation shall contain no additives or excipient (substance added to facilitate further manufacturing or storage), and the manufacturer shall provide a guarantee of quality throughout the production chain: non-pollution of the soil, planting, growing, selective harvesting, production and packaging of the final product.

For cooking, choose a pure turmeric powder rather than "curry". Preferably organic. A scientific study has shown that the curry powder tends to contain very little curcumin in comparison with turmeric.
Tips for the use of curcumin

Currently there are no commercially available formulation for use against cancer, and you must know that high doses are required, curcumin is not well absorbed by the body. The typical anti-cancer dose may reach 3 g of a good bioavailable curcumin extract, three to four times per day.

To work around this problem, you can make a microemulsion of curcumin powder. Mix a tablespoon of turmeric with 1 or 2 egg yolks with a teaspoon or two of melted coconut oil coconut. Then use a blender to emulsify the mixture.

Another strategy that can help increase the absorption of curcumin is to put a tablespoon of curcumin powder in 12.5 cl of boiling water (it should boil when you add the powder, the efficiency is reduced if the water is warm). After boiling 10 minutes, you will have created a 12% solution, you can drink once refreshed. There is a woody taste. Note that the concentration of curcumin will gradually decrease. After six hours, the solution will be only 6%, so it is best to drink within four hours.

Attention to tasks: curcumin is a very potent yellow pigment. This liquid can stain indelibly not only fabric but also some plastics (kitchen equipment). Handle, therefore, carefully.

5-Preventing Cancer: 11 Tips to lower your risk of being struck.
  • The last thirty years, cancer has doubled in the world, and estimates indicate that it could triple by 2030. Clearly, we need to begin to seriously address cancer prevention.
  • The impressive potential of curcumin to fight cancer should not forget that a healthy lifestyle - not the absorption of any quantities of food supplements - is the BEST way to avoid becoming a new statistical havoc cancer. My belief is that you can potentially eliminate your risk of cancer and other chronic diseases, and drastically improve your chances of cure if you are currently affected by following these strategies to reduce risk:
  •  greatly decrease your intake of sugars and starches (foods containing a large amount of starch). This will allow you to normalize your insulin level in your blood, a hormone that stimulates the growth of cancer cells. This is one of the most effective steps you can take to decrease your risk of cancer, and to do this, reduce your intake of sugar, cereals and potatoes is the priority. The elimination of high glycemic index foods is particularly important because they are the ones that stimulate the higher your insulin.
  •      Optimize your vitamin D levels, to maintain between 50 and 70 ng / mL. Scientific evidence that show that a vitamin D deficiency plays a crucial role in the development of cancer is overwhelming. Researchers in this field have estimated that about 30% of cancer deaths could be prevented each year by optimizing the vitamin D levels in the general population. In your personal level, you can decrease your risk of cancer by half or more, simply by exposing yourself to enough sunshine throughout the year, but this is rarely sufficient in our countries with low levels of sunshine. The use of an oral supplement of vitamin D is often essential. If you are being treated for cancer, it is likely that higher vitamin D levels (80 to 90 ng / ml) will be beneficial.
  •      Get regular exercise: there is convincing evidence that physical exercise greatly reduces your risk of cancer, primarily by reducing insulin levels and normalizing anabolic hormones. For example, women who exercise regularly can reduce their risk of breast cancer by 20 to 30% compared to inactive. Exercise does not need to be intensive, on the contrary, it must be frequent and varied.
  •      Increase your intake of fatty acids omega-3 animal (EPA and DHA). Numerous studies suggest that they play a role in the control of inflammation and in the effectiveness of the immune system to fight cancer cells :
  •      Eat plenty of vegetables, ideally fresh and organic, emphasizing colorful vegetables and especially green leafy vegetables and cruciferous, that is to say all sorts of cabbage but also radishes and watercress, which interesting anti-cancer properties.
  •      Equip yourself with a personal technique to reduce your negative emotions that may activate your cancer genes. Yoga, prayer, meditation, relaxation therapy are some of the ways to restore a suitable inner balance. If you are already affected by the disease these techniques can help you fight the disease.
  •      Maintain your ideal weight;
  •      Getting enough sleep, and a good quality sleep;
  •      Reduce your exposure to environmental toxins like pesticides, household chemicals, air fresheners, air pollution and toxins from plastics such as bisphenol A.
  •      Cooking with an emphasis on soft modes of cooking: poaching, steaming, boiling, rather than frying. Avoid absolutely barbecuing.
