The main
difference between arthritis and osteoarthritis is the nature of the pain.
What is
arthritis?
Arthritis is
inflammation of the joints. as such, it can cause pain even at rest. It is
inflammatory in type, affects the synovial membrane, and can also affect other
organs. It is pain even at rest that may decrease with activity.
Arthritis being a "crystal" disease we will specifically choose certain emunctories to evacuate these.
The kidneys:
increase the water intake, plants with diuretic action (piloselle, orthosiphon,
couch grass, lime sapwood, nettle, meadowsweet ...)
The skin:
activate the sweat glands: hot bath, sauna ...
The lungs:
physical exercises in the open air, full breathing, ...
What is
osteoarthritis?
Osteoarthritis,
on the other hand, can cause pain when moving. It is therefore more of a
mechanical disease. It is due to an alteration of the cartilage which will
gradually wear out and disappear, leaving
the bones in
contact with each other without protection or buffer zone.
Osteoarthritis
is an inflammatory and oxidative disease that strikes the balance in the making
of cartilage. We are talking about cervical osteoarthritis, back arthritis,
lumbar osteoarthritis, hip osteoarthritis, knee osteoarthritis, shoulders,
hands, feet ...
Osteoarthritis
comes after arthritis: a reduction in mobility of the joint sets in, due to the
destruction of cartilage and modification of the bone. The ground is also
fouled by molecules that have passed the intestinal barrier of the small
intestine and irritate the body.
Symptoms can
appear from the age of 40 and often after 65. It is therefore useful to understand
what can intensify inflammatory processes and
destroyers of
cartilage, in order to slow down the degradation and to reach an older age
without infirmity, because there are certain modifiable factors on which we can
act:
1- A very ancient Chinese herb : "TwHF".
The name of this
plant is complicated: Triptergium wilfordii Hook F.
For simplicity,
doctors call it "TwHF".
It has been used
in traditional Chinese medicine for over 400 years to treat pain, swelling and
inflammation.
It is a very
poisonous plant, so much so that, in folk medicine, its name is "Walk
seven steps and die".
It is MORE
EFFECTIVE for rheumatoid arthritis pain than the most common rheumatoid
arthritis drug, methotrexate.
A study on this
subject was published in April 2014 in the medical journal British American
Journal. After 24 weeks of treatment, the situation improved in 55% of the
patients taking TwHF, compared with 45.6% of the patients taking methotrexate.
Note, however, that those who took both were 77% to notice an improvement in
pain.
Your doctor can
help you take this herb without exposing you to any danger.
2- Tiger balm :
Tiger Balm is a
cream that the Chinese apply to the skin to relieve muscle and skeletal pain.
It is used
against joint pain .
Many people
imagine that red tiger balm contains chili (because of its red color), but no.
It contains
essential oils of mint, clove, cinnamon, camphor and cajuput oil, all diluted
in paraffin.
Tiger balm can
be used perfectly against joint pain.
3- Harpagophytum
or "devil's claw" :
It is a plant
with powerful anti-inflammatory properties since it reduces the level of
cytokines (pro-inflammatory substances whose main cytokines involved in
osteoarthritis are interleukin-1 and TNF-alpha).
It also
decreases the pain. In addition, it inhibits enzymes that "digest"
the cartilage. It is therefore a very central weapon in the anti-osteoarthritis
strategy to improve mobility and relieve pain. You have to take the plant for
at least two months to see any benefits.
“Similarly, a
2-month study in 42 individuals with chronic osteoarthritis found that
supplementing daily with devil’s claw in combination with turmeric and
bromelain, which are thought to have anti-inflammatory effects as well, reduced
pain by an average 46%” .
4- Nettle
leaves :
They contain
anti-inflammatory compounds which also inhibit interleukins. Nettle often helps
reduce medication doses. A very recent French study demonstrated the benefits
of a nettle extract, associated with fish oils and vitamin E on the symptoms of
osteoarthritis of the knee and on the need for anti-inflammatory drugs. .
Nettle can be useful for reducing the doses of conventional drugs to the extent
that you want.
5- Ginger tea:
It is one of the
best natural anti-inflammatory drugs capable of dramatically reducing joint
pain including pain and inflammation caused by arthritis. So we consume it
without restraint!
Boil a liter of
water then add thin slices of ginger when it comes to the boil. Let boil for 15
minutes. Remove from the heat and let steep for 15 minutes. Filter and drink up
to 4 cups a day.
There are no
contraindications for pregnant women and children.
6- Turmeric ( curcumin ) :
This spice is
very popular for enhancing the taste of our dishes, is also a powerful
anti-inflammatory, very useful in case of joint pain. It acts in particular on
stiffness and functional discomfort.
Each day you can
consume 4 pinches of turmeric to integrate into your dishes. Or even mix a
spoonful of turmeric with honey. You can also take it in capsule form.
“Turmeric only contains about 2 to 6 percent curcumin,
so you’re not getting much [of the anti-inflammatory effect],” 500 mg of
high-quality curcumin twice a day for both OA and RA .
Ask your doctor
or pharmacist for advice before use in pregnant women and children.
People need to be reminded that if they are on blood
thinners to stay away from turmeric.
Against the
destruction of cartilage:
Blackcurrant
increases cartilage tissue, horsetail participates in collagen synthesis
through its silica, the aerial part of nettle is anti-arthritis, diuretic,
anti-inflammatory and mineral-modulating. Horsetail and nettle will protect
chondrocytes, cartilage cells.
Bamboo extract
also contains silica, a constituent of tissues
conjunctives.
Silica contributes to strong bones, resistance of connective tissues and joint
comfort by supporting flexibility and mobility.
Willow,
diuretic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and chondroprotector: provides nutrients
to the cartilage and improves joint synovial fluid.
Here are some
ways to treat your osteoarthritis naturally.
Consulting a
naturopath will direct you to natural health solutions adapted to your case,
according to your history with an “anti-arthritis” food rebalancing tailored to
your tastes and your lifestyle.
A program that
will both reduce the acidity of your moods as well as oxidative stress by
improving the intake of antioxidants and polyphenols, capable of combating
oxidative damage for example, see here to stock up on natural antioxidants .
Your naturopath
will also choose other techniques depending on your caseadapted like
oligotherapy, aromatherapy, nutritherapy, tools
biochemicals
like other chondroprotectors necessary to provide
constituents of
cartilage and limit erosion ...
You will
understand that becoming an actor in your health with the help of your
naturopath will always be beneficial. You still have to accept to change your
diet because some people still do not believe that the quality of their food
can have an impact on their well-being and their health.
